It didn't take long for someone to use the priceless video of McCain struggling to answer a question about the fairness of health insurance covering Viagra, but not birth control. McCain supporter Carly Fiorina raised the issue on the campaign trail, arguing the disparate coverage was unfair to women. Fiorina apparently didn't know McCain's record of consistently denying health insurance benefits for birth control. When McCain was asked about Fiorina's view about the unfairness of the policy, he looked extremely uncomfortable and dodged giving a "straight talk" answer.

In the past week, John McCain was asked an uncomfortable question regarding the health insurance coverage of Viagra and birth control. While I could go off on another political soliloquy about gender inequities and all of that, there was another aspect of the video that concerned me even more. Watch what happens around the 30 second mark:
You notice his hand reaching up to his face, grasping his face and pulling at his skin, almost seemingly against his will. This could only mean one thing - not just an uncomfortable feeling for Senator McCain at having to discuss issues such as these, rather, I'm afraid it may be something much more sinister. John McCain's hand has been possessed by an evil spirit. Senator McCain, please heed my warning now or else something like this may happen:

The ad will run in Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Washington DC during television shows that are popular with women. Oprah? Holler are your girl. Peep the video below, specifically the blatant uneasiness of McCain when asked whether it was unfair that some insurance companies cover Viagra and not birth control pills. You're supposed to know these things, Mr. (potential) President.

Remember that John McCain gave to a question about why he supports health insurance companies covering Viagra but not birth control? Well, apparently his embarrassing display didn't sit well with the gals over at Planned Parenthood, who just cut an ad targeted at women who use(d) birth control informing them of McCain's (non)position on the matter.
As far as political attack ads go, this one is pretty tepid. BUT, check out where Planned Parenthood is running this spot -- during Project Runway on Bravo, Army Wives on Lifetime, and Oprah in some markets. Planned Parenthood must figure this will be red meat for those audiences.

During a Q&A session with reporters last week, John McCain was asked why he has voted down a bill requiring insurance companies to cover prescription contraception in light of the fact that many do cover Viagra. The origin of this question came, interestingly enough, from who is now a McCain adviser - . Remember, McCain has publicly admitted to using Viagra. Watch this video, ponder the 8 second pause, and consider my argument below.
Haven't you learned the art of dealing with reporters, Mr. McCain? If you're at all unsure about a question, either don't talk about it, change the subject, or turn the question into a matter that you are comfortable speaking about. Thou Shalt never take a question, think about it for a while, show the look of struggle on your face, and then refuse to respond by actually admitting your lack of knowledge about the topic.
Just for the record, I feel bad for McCain. He tried desperately, albeit detrimentally, not to duck the question. Congressional votes are not simple. A no vote on a seemingly simple issue often times turns out to be much more complicated than it appears on the surface.
Now, why is it that dispensing Viagra is OK, but dispensing birth control is not? McCain's vote was shaped by either his business/lobbyists connections or by his religious views. Let's give Mr. McCain the benefit of the doubt and assume there were no unethical business forces influencing his vote. That leaves only one other possibility. So, was his vote based on religious reasons? Was it?
Consider this! Viagra can help married couples enjoy a better . . . well, we all know what it's for. However, Viagra also happens to help perverts (sin), non-married individuals (sin), gay men (major sin), non-married gay men (double sin), and even old non-married perverted gay men (sin, sin, sin, and sin)! In other words, Viagra can be used for sinful purposes.
Now let's examine birth control. Aside from the assortment of condoms, spermicides, etc., there are basically 2 types of pills: those that prevent pregnancy and those that end pregnancy (as in the case of morning after pills). Let's consider the first kind of pills for this argument since the proposed bill was for prescription contraceptives. Those pills can be used by non-married individuals (sin) . . . and that's it. Perverts don't use them, gay men don't need them, non-married gay men don't buy them, and old non-married perverted gay men can't find a good use for them.
So, Viagra is OK and birth control is not. Wow, my logic must be truly flawed!
By the way, I did not research whether Mr. McCain did in fact get back to the reporter with the reason for his vote.
