day 14 post operative
14 days in bed, lying flat as much as possible and doing very little. That's required for recuperation from this op. Not sitting up in bed, not sitting halfway up, but lying flat on your back, maybe with your head tilted up on a pillow to watch TV.
There's not much you can do in this situation - you can't realistically work on a computer for long periods without breaking the above rules. You can't do much at all and let me tell you it's really really dull. If you're going to do this, get in a BIG pile of DVD's and books.
The other problem is the drugs - they made me feel like crap for the whole time. I finally discovered that the particular culprit was the Nizoral (ketoconazole anti-fungal) tablets. For this entire time I've been dizzy and spacey and recently had headaches and nausea/vomiting. Since all the other drugs had run their course, I realised it was the Nizoral and (on doctor's advice, of course) stopped taking them and feel a lot better.
So today is the last day of confinement thank god. It's been not a lot of fun and there has been a certain amount of pain as well as a bit of needless worrying. You'd worry too, if someone had hacked around with your penis to this extent. The doc has not been very forthcoming in terms of staying in contact and reassurance. He seems to be more of your "old-school" consultant/specialist dude who pretty much talks to you as much as necessary to get the job done and no further. This is not entirely helpful but I should have more confidence in things - the guy is a world expert and has done thousands of these.
So, if you are going to get this done to you, be prepared for a long period of being out of touch with the real world and for a lot of boredom. And be aware of drug side effects.
I probably won't post again until my next consultation in 3 weeks or so and I'll let you know how things have progressed.
