Drug Uses
Tenoretic is used for treatment of high blood pressure.
How Taken
Use Tenoretic as directed by your doctor. Take Tenoretic with or without a meal. Taking Tenoretic at the same time each day will help you remember to take it. Continue to use Tenoretic even if you feel well. Tenoretic may increase the amount of urine or cause you to urinate more often when you first start taking it. To keep this from disturbing your sleep, try to take your dose before 6 pm.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Tenoretic, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Tenoretic, if you have an untreated adrenal gland tumor, diabetes, gout, liver problems, overactive thyroid, or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE, lupus), if you have a history of severe allergic reactions to allergens, asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, or other lung disease, congestive heart failure, slow heartbeat, heart rhythm problems, or narrowing of blood vessels of the legs, arms, stomach, or kidneys, kidney problems, or low blood potassium or low blood sodium, if you are scheduled to have surgery or to receive anesthesia, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. Tenoretic has been shown to cause harm to the fetus. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Tenoretic while you are pregnant. Tenoretic is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you use Tenoretic, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby. Some medicines may interact with Tenoretic. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Tenoretic if you have congestive heart failure that has not been treated, a very slow heartbeat, heart block, or inability to urinate or if you are currently taking mibefradil. Tenoretic may cause you to become more sensitive to the sun. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Tenoretic. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time. Tenoretic may hide signs of low blood sugar, such as a rapid heartbeat. Be sure to watch for other signs of low blood sugar. Low blood sugar may make you anxious, sweaty, weak, dizzy, drowsy, or faint. It may also make your vision change, give you a headache, chills, or tremors, or make you hungrier. Check blood sugar levels closely. If you are a diabetic ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine. Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Tenoretic before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery. Your doctor may have also prescribed a potassium supplement for you. If so, follow the dosing carefully. Do not start taking additional potassium on your own or change your diet to include more potassium without first checking with your doctor. Do not suddenly stop taking Tenoretic. Sharp chest pain, irregular heartbeat, and sometimes heart attack may occur if you suddenly stop Tenoretic. The risk may be greater if you have certain types of heart disease. Your doctor should slowly lower your dose over several weeks if you need to stop taking it. This should be done even if you only take Tenoretic for high blood pressure. Heart disease is common and you may not know you have it. Limit physical activity while you are lowering your dose. If new or worsened chest pain or other heart problems occur, contact your doctor right away. You may need to start taking Tenoretic again. Tenoretic should not be used in children. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- Diarrhea, dizziness, feeling of a whirling motion, headache, lack of energy, lightheadedness, mild drowsiness, nausea, unusual tiredness. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), difficulty breathing, drowsiness, dry mouth, infrequent urination, lethargy, low blood pressure, muscle pain or cramps, muscle tiredness, nausea, rapid or irregular heartbeat, restlessness, thirst, very slow heartbeat, vomiting, weakness.
Storage
Store Tenoretic at 77 °F (25 °C. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Tenoretic out of the reach of children.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Tenoretic overdose are- altered mental status, confusion, or coma, coughing, difficulty in breathing, especially when lying down, dizziness, fainting, lightheadedness, especially upon standing, muscle weakness, seizures (convulsions), shortness of breath, very slow heart rate, wheezing.
More Information
Tenoretic may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness. These effects may worsen if Tenoretic is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Tenoretic with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Tenoretic should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor
