Pills Causing Me Ills
As a pharmacist, a consumer and a television viewer I am really sick and tired of all the drug companies invading our homes via TV with ridiculous commercials about medications to treat erectile dysfunction, osteoporosis and enlarged prostates just to mention a few. Viva Viagra? To the music of Viva Las Vegas? Please. The United States and New Zealand are the only two countries that allow this. The pharmaceutical companies spend billions of dollars to bring this information into our homes. They encourage people to ask their physicians about these medications which physician's don't usually like but sometimes go along with. Unless you like your 5 year old asking you what erectile dysfunction is, I suggest we all contact our legislators to stop or at least control these ads in some way. Perhaps the drug companies could lower prices a bit if they lowered their TV advertising budgets. I don't buy the argument that the price for new drugs is so high because of research and development costs.
